Ranking Trends

The two charts in this section show you keyword and ranking trends over time. The way the charts are displayed can be customized by selecting your preferred date range, choosing which data sets are shown, and expanding/collapsing the view. STAT remembers your settings on a site-by-site basis, so the next time you return to that site your charts will look exactly like how you left them.

Keywords

This chart shows how keywords have left or entered this view over time. It is especially useful for dynamic tags, which work like smart playlists based on simple, logical rules you set. For example, you can set up a dynamic tag for a URL, then monitor the number of keywords that rank with that URL over time.

You can add explanatory notes for yourself and other team members directly to the Keywords chart:

  1. Right-click any data point and select Add Note from the Notes drop-down.
  2. In the pop-up, type in your note and click Save Note.

To read the note, just mouse over the note icon.

To hide notes from view, deselect Show Notes from the Notes drop-down.

To delete a note, right-click on the note icon and select Delete User Notes from the drop-down. Select Yes to confirm.

Ranking Averages vs. Distribution

Use this chart to compare the average ranks over a specified time against the ranking distributions (the number or percentage keywords that rank in a given range). This will provide insight into how your rankings are actually clustering on the SERPs, since averages alone can be misleading. For example, when non-ranking keywords enter or leave the top 100–120 results, it can affect your averages in unexpected ways. This is also why you can customize how non-ranking keywords are calculated.

There are two ways to zoom in on the chart to look at a given range:

  • Double-click the distribution range on the chart itself.
  • Single-click the expand/collapse icons to the left of each distribution range.

You can also toggle between percentages and numbers by clicking on the % and # symbols below the legend.
