Two new API outputs and Keyword Suggestions filters, plus five new SERP features

This month we’re announcing the release of CSV outputs for two of our optional APIs. We’re also catching you up on everything else we did but forgot to tell you about at the time.

Let’s get to it!

Feature improvements

New CSV outputs for the Bulk Parsed SERP and Bulk AdWords optional APIs

Since converting your JSON or XML parsed SERPs into CSVs is both time and computationally intensive, we thought we’d save you the hassle and just create the CSV for you. Now when you’re job-generating from the Bulk Parsed SERP and AdWords APIs, you can select the CSV format option from Site Tools > Settings.

Two more ways to narrow down your keyword suggestions

One of the most powerful components of our Keyword Suggestions tool is the “Display keyword suggestions that” filters that let you refine your suggestions based on whichever criteria matches your keyword strategy. A little while back we added two new filters to the mix:

  • “only include keywords with all of the query terms” — this filter shows only the suggestions that include all the terms you entered as a seed keyword. For example, if you enter “mustache wax,” you’ll see suggestions that contain both “mustache” and “wax.” You’d use this if you’re looking for exact-match keywords instead of broadly matched or semantically-related keywords.
  • “related to keywords with similar results pages” — this filter looks at the pages that rank highly for your seed keyword and then finds other keywords that have overlapping search results. For example, many pages that rank well for “mustache wax” also rank well for searches like “beard care products” and “beard conditioner,” and so those keywords would appear in this filter. You can use this filter to help with keyword or topic clustering.

Tracking updates

Five new SERP features added to STAT’s tracking capabilities

While our comms may be late, our parser is always up-to-date. Over the past few months we started tracking the Buying guide, Things to know, How to, and Discussions and forums SERP features, as well as four different types of Watch action features, so you can track them too.

The mobile image grid got reclassified as a SERP feature

Before, when a grid of images appeared on a mobile SERP, we parsed it as carousel (organic, images), and gave it a base rank; however, after internal discussions and client consultations, we reclassified this result type as an images SERP feature and removed its base rank, while still continuing to surface any ranking URLs connected to the individual images.

In development

Historical rank change comparisons coming soon to the STAT app.

We’re hard at work bringing a much-loved report functionality into the app. Get ready to compare a keyword’s rankings between two different dates of your choosing, without ever having to leave STAT. Wow!

Happy tracking!

Cheers,
the STAT team
