We love bringing you the most detailed view of the SERPs possible. That’s why, starting today, we’ll be ranking each individual result from the PlacesV3 pack appearing on the SERP.
As many of you are aware, Google recently replaced the usual 7-pack local listings with a 3-pack (AKA the Snack Pack). This rollout was released worldwide at the beginning of August.
There’s been speculation that this change was made because of a lower click-through rate on results 4 through 7. Specifically on mobile, where results 1 through 3 took up all of the real estate, and users would have to scroll down to see 4 through 7.
The PlacesV3 pack was modelled after mobile results, and has now completely replaced the 7-pack in the SERPs for both mobile and desktop.
We’ve released this new feature today to show you the results that appear in the PlacesV3 pack with their own unique rank, both in the All Keywords tab and in the Archived SERPs subtab.
Because of this update, there will be an increase in the overall accuracy of your rankings. You may notice some fluctuation in your Google ranks, depending on whether or not the URL you’re tracking is above, within, or below the PlacesV3 pack. However, all base rankings will remain the same because this change only impacts Google universal results.
In STAT, Google base rank excludes all universal search results (i.e. blended results like places, news, images, answers, video, and so on). For example, if STAT reports a Google rank of eight but a Google base rank of five, this indicates that there are three universal results ahead of your site on the SERP.
As always, we value your thoughts and feedback on every new feature that we release. And if you have any questions or concerns, talk to us at support@getSTAT.com and we’ll be happy to help you out.
Many thanks,
The STAT Team
